This is a picture of the Equal Rights Amendment supporters walking to push their cause. The sign quotes what the ERA is trying to amend, it says, "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex."

In 1923 the Equal Rights Amendment(ERA) was introduced to congress but wasn't passed by both houses until 1972. Although there were a lot of difficulties with the ratification process, this was a big step. Organizations for women's rights worked to push the ERA but the support slowed and hit a dead line after getting ratified by its 35th state, needing just 3 more. Although the deadline passed and the ERA did not get the 38 states it needed, the fact that it was passed by congress gave a lot of positive motivation to the movement.
